Esfand is the last month of the Persian calendar, which ends with the Nowruz celebration, announcing the upcoming spring. They are also little seeds that are burnt to make incense, a tradition inherited from the Zoroastrianism faith.

This project was born from the musical work of Rouzbeh Esfandarmaz, who was wondering to what extent Iranian Folk music could dissolve into electronic dance music. This seminal question led him to explore the various rituals and customs of Iranian music, establish a dialog with computer music, and compose several tracks - each dedicated to a specific region or tradition, eventually leading to the album Hélé.

In order to help bring this music on stage, and add more flavor to it, Rouzbeh teamed up with his fellow university mate Patrick Stewart. Literally coming from the other side of the planet, the latter brought a fresh view over the project, extracting the tracks from their Iranian ground, and feeding them different musical energies.

Esfand was born.
